The Bennington College Young Writers Award is now accepting applications. Twelve Pulitzer Prize winners, three U.S. poet laureates, four MacArthur Genius recipients, several New York Times bestsellers, and two of Time magazine’s 100 most important individuals are among the distinguished literary alumni of Bennington College.
Bennington established the Young Writers Awards to encourage literary excellence at the high school level in honor of this tradition. This competition aims to honor high school students with exceptional writing ability.

Requirements:
- A collection of three poems.
- Fiction: A 1,500-word or shorter short tale or one-act play with a maximum running length of 30 minutes.
- They will contact your supporting teacher if they have any queries about the competition.
Benefits:
- First-place winners in each category are awarded a prize of $1,000;
- Second-place winners receive $500;
- Third-place winners receive $250.
- The Young Writers Award winners are also qualified for undergraduate scholarships at Bennington.
